Police issue warning after drugs incident in Oldham

Police in Oldham are issuing an urgent warning after four people have been taken to hospital after taking a what is believed to be a form of MDMA.

During the course of Saturday evening, four men have been taken to hospital seriously ill and requiring treatment after taking the drug. A woman was also taken to hospital and assessed but did not require treatment.

One of the men is currently in a critical condition.

It is believed to come in crystal form and may possibly be known locally as ‘magic’ or ‘pink champagne’ and police are urging anyone who may have taken it to seek medical attention.

Detective Sergeant John Coleman of GMP’s Oldham borough said:

It’s always alarming when numerous people attend hospital seeking treatment after taking a particularly potent form of a drug and our main concern is that there could be others who could be at serious risk of ill health.

If you believe you have taken any of these drugs, which you may know as magic or pink champagne, then I would urge you to seek medical attention immediately.

We are also actively seeking to find the person responsible for their distribution before they supply anyone else with what is a potentially lethal substance.

If you have any information about those responsible then I would ask you to please contact police immediately.

Anybody with information should contact police on 0161 856 9063 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Other people are maybe taking drugs so that they could forget their problem for a short period of time but they don’t realize the danger. They don’t think of what will happen to them in the long run. It’s really not good taking in these dangerous drugs.

I’d argue that alcohol is just a dangerous, if not more so. I would be interested in the number of hospital visits for alcohol versus MDMA. This ‘magic’ or ‘pink champagne’ obviously differs from other MDMA pills in that it has serious adverse effects that are sending an alarming number of people to the hospital. Hopefully they can find the distributor and stop the distribution of this pill. Yes, taking drugs can be dangerous but clearly its a risk many people find to be worth taking. Perhaps pill testing kits should be available for these people to avoid situations like this.

A lot of people really tends to use drugs just to feel and get a certain high. But because drugs will make your brains not work properly, that makes it much more dangerous, not only to the one who took it, but also with the people around them. So much so with alcohol. A much better way of living is to not even try this things. It is not a good bragging point then afterwards if you are not dead you have killed someone because of it.
